Our Trip to Scotland - Part 1, Travel Troubles
We were headed to Aberdeen for the first time, and it was for a family wedding! Albeit I was not working, it was still my first experience of a destination wedding, and I was from the groom's side of the family. It was my brother in law's wedding weekend, and we had so much to do!
As the groom's side, we give a lot of gifts during the wedding period. In Bangladeshi (Sylheti) culture, we curate thaals (platters/hampers) of gifts, snacks, clothing and jewellery, creatively curated and expertly wrapped to send over to the new bride and her family. Because we were travelling, we had to take everything in suitcases and fly it over to Aberdeen to assemble.
We had checked in 7 suitcases, 3 were just gifts and packaging! But it meant that when we landed, we'd have everything we needed to get cracking.
What threw a spanner into the works was that...only 1 out of 7 people made it onto the plane. That one person was the groom! Everyone else was too late to the gate, delayed at security. While they were walking to the counter, they also saw that all 7 suitcases had also been left behind, so the groom was flying empty handed.
My husband, daughter and I were on a separate flight, we were supposed to be the last ones there but ended up being there before majority of the family. Those left behind were split across an evening flight and the earliest one the following day..what a start to the wedding week!
Once the evening flight arrived, the suitcases came with them. It was ready to start on those gifts at 10pm. Except now, I was the one who was majorly unwell. I had a sore throat from earlier in the week, which was now a full blown cold with a headache and fever. I had to sit out the gift making for now.
